Apply to host an event
Before you can run an MLH event, you submit an event application. MLH reviews it, and once it's approved your event is created for you to configure.
Before you start
- Sign in to Organizer HQ with your MLH account.
- Some event types require a verified phone number first. If yours does, you'll be sent to verify your phone before you can start the application — verify it in your MLH profile settings, then return and select Recheck.
Steps
- Choose the event type you want to host (for example, a Hackathon, Hack Day, or League event).
- Start a new application and give your event a memorable name.
- Set the start and end date, time, and time zone.
- Upload a header image (PNG or JPG; around 1200×600 works well).
- Work through the application steps — a series of questions about your event. Some steps only appear based on your earlier answers.
- Submit the application for review.
You can save a draft and come back — an application stays in draft until you submit it.
What each status means
- Draft — you're still filling it in.
- Submitted — it's with MLH for review.
- Approved — you're cleared to run the event; your event is created in draft for you to configure.
- Rejected — MLH couldn't approve it; you'll see a reason and can address it.
- Withdrawn — you canceled the application.
After approval
Once approved, your event is created (starting in draft). Next, configure it — see Event settings — and publish it when you're ready.
