Glossary
Common MLH terms used across these docs.
Avo dashboard
The internal admin dashboard MLH staff use to manage the platform
(core.mlhtools.com). See Avo dashboard.
Challenge
A task — often sponsored — that hackers complete at an event to win prizes. Challenges have a type (Overall, Event, League, Short Form, Third Party). See Challenges.
Challenge-first vs. project-first
The two submission flows. In project-first (Devpost-style), a hacker submits one project for the event and the submission form is configured on the program. In challenge-first, hackers submit per challenge and the form is configured on each challenge. See Programs and submission flows.
Check-in
Marking that a registered hacker actually attended. Only checked-in hackers count as attendees. See Check-ins.
EYNTK
"Everything You Need To Know" — an event communication sent to registrants.
Event
A hackathon or activity hackers take part in. See Managing events.
Fellowship
MLH's fellowship program: applications to tracks, placement into pods (cohorts) via enrollments. See Fellowship.
GHW (Global Hack Week)
A recurring MLH event with special conventions where swag eligibility is derived from challenge configuration. See GHW event setup.
My MLH
Your MLH member account and single sign-on (my.mlh.io). See
My MLH.
Organizer HQ
Where organizers apply to host and run events (organize.mlh.io). See
Organizer HQ.
Participation
A record of a user's involvement in a specific event, with a status (applied, accepted, registered, checked in, …). See Participants.
Program / Series
A program groups related events and sets the submission flow; a series groups related events (e.g. a recurring hackathon). See Programs.
Promo code
A code from a sponsor, grouped into a pool and consumed by a redemption. See Promo codes.
Sponsorship
A company's sponsorship with MLH. MLH sponsorships are org-wide; event sponsorships connect a company to a specific event. See MLH sponsorships and Event sponsorships.
Submission
What a hacker submits. Challenge submissions are per-challenge and can be reviewed/approved; event submissions are the single project-first submission for an event. See Review challenge submissions.
Swag (basic vs. bonus)
GHW rewards. Basic swag requires completing all featured challenges; bonus swag additionally requires checking in to 5 mini events (with each mini event's parent set to the main GHW event). See GHW event setup.
